Body Sculpt is a non-aerobic, muscle-toning class usually focused on core strength. You perform traditional weight-training moves in a class setting. Most sculpting classes use weighted bars, exercise bands, dumbbells, or a combination of this equipment.

Spartacus Gym presents – INTRO TO STRENGTH – taught by Spartacus Gym owner and master trainer Roy Duquette.┬áDesigned specifically for the novice/beginner who is new to strength training, this progressive 8-week workshop will offer a comprehensive technical breakdown of six basic compound exercises: the Deadlift, Squat, Bench Press, Row, Pull-Up, and Overhead Press! If you are new to the gym and feel somewhat apprehensive about incorporating strength training into your life, then this workshop is for you! The most in-depth analysis and technical breakdown of these exercises plus all of their derivatives will give you the confidence to train in any gym in the world safely and effectively. This is NOT a standard group class! In addition to covering exercise technique, a heavy emphasis will be given to exploring the strategic elements behind performing your most ideal workout, setting up a proper training schedule, structuring your weight/reps/sets based on your individual goals, and maximizing the results from your workouts.

Registration for INTRO TO STRENGTH opens for all Spartacus Gym Silver members on January 3rd, 2019. The first session will be Tuesday, January 8th, 2019.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art, which emphasizes throws and takedowns, positional control, pins, escapes, chokes, and submissions to subdue a fully resisting opponent. Due to the fact that greater size, strength, and aggression can more easily be countered by utilizing superior leverage, grip, and ground-fighting strategy, BJJ has been referred to as a “chess game” that is played with the entire body.

There are 4 main expressions of BJJ that we practice at Spartacus Gym: i) BJJ with the gi, ii) No-Gi BJJ, iii) BJJ with strikes, and iv) BJJ for the street. Men and women of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels train together on our mats in a mutually cooperative environment. To maximize the learning experience for each and every student, class sizes are limited to only 10 people per class. BJJ training is extremely strenuous and physically demanding. Each class begins with 20 to 30-minutes of solo and/or partner drills, followed by a thorough exploration of new techniques and scenarios. 30-minutes of situational/positional sparring should be expected in each and every class. In addition to all of the obvious fitness and self-defense benefits, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the ultimate martial art for developing focus, meticulous attention to detail, complex problem solving ability, and mastery of your emotions. There is no better system for self-improvement anywhere.

All classes are taught by Roy Duquette, a BJJ brown belt with over 20 years of martial arts experience.

Spartacus Gym’s Kickboxing program is a hybrid of western Boxing, Muay Thai, and Dutch-style Kickboxing. The main objective of our program is to foster the development of fundamentally sound strikers who possess excellent footwork, timing, movement, and strong defensive awareness. Muay Thai is known as the “art of 8 limbs” — or as the art of punching, kicking, kneeing, and elbowing. Beyond the obvious self-defense benefits, you will improve your physical endurance, stamina, speed, coordination, total-body strength, and athleticism, as well as discipline, focus, teamwork, cooperation, and mental toughness. You will experience increased confidence as a by-product of consistency and self-improvement through perseverance. Warning: This is NOT a Cardio-Kickboxing class! Our highly structured curriculum is based on battle-tested, full-contact fighting techniques taught in a fun, safe, relaxed, positive, beginner-friendly environment. Learning how to spar correctly is a big component of this program. This is a co-ed class with a perfect 50/50 split of male and female students.

In order to participate, you will need to bring your own: hand-wraps, 12 to 160z boxing gloves, and shin guards. Beginners are not permitted to spar unless getting special permission from the head instructor.

Exercises that emphasize your body’s core – the abdomen, obliques, lower back, innner and outer thigh, butt, and so on. Pilates develops strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance, and good posture with a lower chance of injury than other forms of exercise. The discipline emphasizes correct form instead of going for the burn.
